The FEMALES project aims to tackle gender inequality in STEM by promoting the visibility of female role models and using game-based learning to engage girls in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Inspired by findings such as the UNESCO 2017 report, which highlights how girls’ interest in STEM declines with age, the project promotes early and sustained engagement through innovative and inclusive education practices.

Key Objectives:

  • Highlight the significant contributions of women in STEM fields.
  • Combat stereotypes among students and teachers.
  • Inspire girls to pursue STEM studies and careers through role-model-based education.
  • Support the development of key competences for all students (girls and boys) in STEM.
  • Strengthen teachers’ skills in promoting inclusion and equality in STEM education.

Implementation Highlights:

  • Coordination and planning meetings with partner organizations and project teams.
  • Creation of the project’s online presence, logo, and dissemination materials.
  • Organization of teacher seminars, workshops on gamification, and learning-training activities.
  • Management of project monitoring, evaluation, and communication with stakeholders.

Key Results (Intellectual Outputs):

  1. Methodological Guide – A comprehensive resource for integrating female role models in STEM education and combating stereotypes, including a framework for the project’s e-learning platform (MOOC).
  2. Role Model Educational Tools – A suite of tools including card games, an augmented reality version, e-books, and curated media (videos, books, movies) focused on inspiring STEM role models.
  3. E-learning Platform (MOOC) – An online platform for teachers offering access to the guide and tools, along with training in STEM education, role model pedagogy, and gamification techniques.

Through these outputs, the FEMALES project empowers educators and inspires young girls, fostering a more inclusive and gender-balanced future in STEM.
