The D.O.M.E. project addressed the digital skills gap between students and teachers by equipping both groups with essential 21st-century digital competencies. It aimed to foster digital literacy, promote interest in STEAM subjects, and support the integration of low-cost, accessible educational innovations—most notably, the construction of cost-effective planetarium systems.
Through hands-on, interdisciplinary learning, students gained skills in computational thinking, mathematics, physics, design, and creativity, while also engaging their local communities through science outreach activities. The project embraced the principles of Universal Design for Learning and positioned schools as science engagement hubs.
Objectives included:
- Empowering students to build and present a low-cost planetarium.
- Enhancing scientific reasoning and digital skills.
- Promoting community engagement and expanding scientific literacy.
Key activities involved:
- National multiplier events.
- A five-day training event in Greece (D.O.M.E. Architect Academy).
- School-based implementation and prototype construction.
- Development of a pedagogical framework and lasting online resources.
The project's innovative and replicable model ensured sustainability, accessibility, and long-term educational impact.
