The SMILE project was designed to promote climate change awareness and sustainable mobility through innovative educational approaches. It introduced the SMILE methodology, aimed at equipping primary and secondary school teachers with the tools and training needed to engage students in climate change education and inspire them to act as agents of change.

The project addressed several key challenges: the urgency to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the need for sustainability competencies (aligned with GreenComp), the integration of STEAM education into climate-related topics, and the enhancement of school curricula through creative, participatory, and interdisciplinary methods.

Key Objectives:

  • Develop a methodology to train teachers in delivering STEAM-based climate change education.
  • Create innovative educational resources to raise awareness on sustainable mobility and climate change.
  • Foster students’ creativity, critical thinking, and STEM skills.
  • Promote sustainable behavior and mobility awareness among students.
  • Engage teachers, school leaders, and stakeholders in climate change education efforts.

Implementation Highlights:

  • Development of the SMILE Methodology and e-Guide based on research and focus groups.
  • Launch of the SMILE platform, learning modules, and teacher training curriculum.
  • Creation of interactive tools such as Digital Escape Rooms and educational animation videos.
  • Translation of all resources into partner languages to maximize accessibility and impact.

The project successfully bridged environmental education and STEAM learning, empowering both teachers and students to address climate challenges through informed, creative, and collaborative action.
